Rev. Johnny L. Hampton, Sr, is a native of Augusta, Ga. and a 1978 graduate of Lucy C. Laney High. He was called to preach in 1982 and ordained in 1983. Rev. Hampton attended Brewton Parker College for two years and later completed studies at Claflin University where he received the Bachelor of Arts degree in Sociology/Criminal Justice Administration. He received Christian training from the American Baptist Theological Seminary and was awarded a diploma of theology. In 1998 he received a Master of Theology and a Doctorate of Ministry in 2001 from Andersonville Theological Seminary.
Dr. Hampton served for thirteen years as Pastor of Eden Baptist Church in Louisville, Georgia. He was named the Minister of the Year by the NAACP of Jefferson County in 1994. He served for four years as the president of the Second Shiloh Congress of Christian Education. He is the former Dean of the Walker Baptist Association Congress of Christian Education.
He serves as Pastor of Mt. Moriah Baptist Church in Warrenton, Georgia for the past 37 years. He is the Senior Pastor of Good Hope Missionary Baptist Church, Augusta, Georgia. Rev. Hampton is the CEO of the East Augusta Community Development Corporation. The CDC provides newly built homes for low to moderate income families and other qualified buyers. This organization also provides budget and credit finance counseling and assistance to those who need help.
Dr. Hampton is married to Sis. Carla Hampton. They are the parents of three children and the grandparents of five. He envisions reaching the unsaved with the Word of God motivated by a passion for God and compassion for people.
